Wedding season is upon us and now that I'm engaged
myself - wahoooweee!! - I thought it only fitting to discuss the
dos and don'ts of wedding bag selection.
1) Settle on a budget - for your bag, that is. You
can spend a $100, $1000 or more - just make sure your bag is
appropriate for the setting. Also, if you know you have a lot of
weddings coming up, splurge on a great clutch. For about $150-$200
you can get a timeless option from
Lauren Merkin or
Aksuona.
Brides, I have one thing to say - GO BIG!! Splurge on a fabulous
evening bag. You'll enjoy it a lot more often than your wedding
video. Did you expect me to say something else? :)
2) This brings us to location. Whether you're the
bride, a bridesmaid, or just a guest, keep in mind that a
church/synagogue/whatever-your-religious-location-may-be wedding
calls for a different clutch or purse than a beach wedding. CITY
WEDDING: Channel the ladies of
Sex and The City
and look for sleek and simple styles with minimal elaborate
embellishments. Also, look for unique shapes and architectural
influences. Clutches trump purses for this setting.
DESTINATION WEDDING: Take it to the beach ladies. A nice tropical
destination wedding calls for bold colors and traditional summer
accents like straw, linen and cork. You can be more bold and
breezy here, but still keep it appropriate. No big bags. If
you went for a morning dip, don't just change your bikini. Change
your bag as well.
TRADITIONAL WEDDING: Just because you're going traditional doesn't
mean you can't be fashion-forward and fun. Opt for classic, regal
and romantic accents like crystals, lace and feathers. If you're a
guest, clutches with hidden chains, as well as purses are all a go
in black or a darker color appropriate for the season.
3) For my fellow brides-to-be, we really should stick to classic in
terms of color. Various shades of white, blush and taupe all work.
Destination brides can have a bit more fun, but still not go too
crazy. And, city brides can play around with silver and soft - very soft - pearlized gold. Much like you
dress, you want to keep in mind that these images will be around
forever. You want to look modern, but not ultra trendy. |
