Once upon a time, a Russian artist prophesied the careers of her three Israeli granddaughters, Dina, Yael, and Tamar Magnes. While Dina is gifted in clothing construction, Yael in jewelry design, and Tamar with graphic design, the Magnes Sisters have brought their individual creative talents together with their sleek and stylish collection of handbags. In finding constant inspiration from both their grandmother and modern Manhattan, the sisters work uniquely utilitarian elements into each of their city-chic styles, making them bags you’ll never want to let go of. BagTrends.com fell in love with the sisters when they first launched theirthen only 3 silhouettescollection. Now we want you to really get to know the Magnes Sisters in our exclusive Q&A and video.

BagTrends: What is it like working with your sisters? How do you divide the work?
Magnes Sisters: We love working together! We design all together, but also handle various aspects of the business individually – Yael manages all of the production, Tamar handles the press and marketing, and Dina manages the other business operations.

BT: Where are your bags produced?
MS: Here, in New York.

BT: What do customers love most about Magnes Sisters?
MS: Most people really love the fact that our bags can be worn a variety of ways, as well as the color combinations and pocket placements.

BT: What are your favorite bags?
Tamar: I love my Mr. Big (blue bag) - it’s my clutch and everyday bag. I am also very excited about the new studded bags we have coming out for Fall 09.
Dina: Mr. Big (blue bag), Gallery (white bag), and the Dry Martini (colorful clutches) are all favorites.
Yael: Dry Martini (animal print clutch, right) - I love this bag the most as it was the first bag we designed all together and also because it is simply the best clutch ever. The dry martini makes me stand tall and also offers just the right amount of room inside, as well as a shoulder strap.

BT:: What are your top 3 in-the-bag essentials?
MS:: We can’t pick just 3. Our in-the-bag essentials include our wallets, blackberries, Muji date books, iPods...Tamar also usually has US Weekly and Lucky in her bag too; Dina has the New Yorker, and Yael usually carries a good book.

BT:: What do the Magnes Sisters have in store for us come Fall 2009?
MS:: New updates on some of our favorite styles plus brand new silhouettes. We also have rich fall colors including plum purple, sapphire blue, and also the popular ‘yam’. And, we’ve fallen for studs, which can be seen on two new clutches called Starlight and Goodtimes, as well as on our larger (and already coveted) satchel, aptly named I Love! We were also inspired by an old belt we had, which you’ll see in the folded details of the collection. The hardware and chains are also a bit stronger and refined for the fall.

BT: Complete the following: Magnes Sisters are for…
MS: Working hard and being nice.

BT: We can't live without…
MS: Family and the city.

BT: A handbag is...
MS: my life, my castle, my home away from home, everything! A handbag is a statement of who you are.

BT: If you could have any celebrity (alive or dead) wearing your bag, who would it be and why?
MS: We would have real city girls wearing our bags - those who live the lives our bags are created for – and also city-chic celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Keri Russell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Liv Tyler.
