Designers Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton delivered one of the most heartfelt collections for Sass & Bide on Saturday night. “Rainbows for Kate” which celebrated life and love, was dedicated to their dear friend who passed away from cancer. Notecards were placed on each seat with this inspirational message of friendship: “You burst into my life like a beautiful rainbow. So strong & bright & brave.”

The collection started with a base of inky blacks, grays, and whites. Then add to the mix rainbow details like sequined necklines, clusters of pins, and quirky hairpieces. Exaggerated ruffle sleeves adorned single sides of tops and tunics. A few plunging minidresses with varying sequined geometric patterns were a bit too court jester-y but can be pared down with black opaque tights, tees, and even a long cardigan. The signature denim was absent from the runway, instead being replaced with shirred latex tights. The dynamic duo even included a sweet “fashion targets breast cancer” t-shirt with a tie-dyed heart.
