Diane von Furstenberg’s heroine for fall 2008 is sultry,
demure, and cultured. She is a screen siren who engages in a “foreign
affair,” an appropriate title for the fall collection.
First, she travels to smoky Berlin. She roams the dark streets in
well-tailored, menswear-inspired pieces. Feminine touches are added with
airy chiffon blouses, delicate lacy slips, and thin belts to show off
the tiny waist. Next, she flies off to rich Shanghai where she stands
out in vivid florals and bold colors. She captures a gentleman’s heart
in a black and white floral jersey version of the “qi-pao,” a
traditional Chinese dress. Once back in New York, our muse dances the
night away in sparkly flapper dresses designed to mimic the iconic
Chrysler Building. Art deco prints reigned supreme and were found in the
form of waistcoats, wrap dresses, and skirts. Cable-knit cardigans and
military cashmere sweaters were layered over blouses and dresses.
And what woman would be complete without the perfect accessories? DVF
previewed her new handbag and shoe collection to accent the looks, along
with belts, gloves, and hats. Bring on the glamour.
