For the fourth time, eleven Academy of Art University graduates presented their debut collections at the Bryant Park tents.

Stylistically, the collections couldn’t be more different – feminine, futuristic, minimalist, graphic. But they all shared a common thread: fashion as art.

Architectural silhouettes, precise draping, and creative textiles reminded us that fashion really sees no boundaries. We saw conventional looks such as pretty petal dresses draped in glimmering chains and quilted silk organza off-the-shoulder dresses. More daring styles included a black leather honeycomb skirt and a trench coated with newsprint paper and burnt with a chef’s torch. Accessories also vied for attention and put up a good fight. Short hot pink gloves, black and white geometric tights, ruched wedge booties, and sparkling brooches almost stole the spotlight until an outrageous black dreadlock coat closed the show.
