February 3, 2007—It’s been a while since the
monarchy has had its hand in American fashion, but according to Atil
Kutoglu’s fall/winter 2007/2008 collection there is certainly a place
for the regal lifestyle of the days of yore. Amidst all the brocades,
sky high collars and luxurious velvets that gave the collections its
old-world feel, Atil Kutoglu managed to carve out a punk rock niche in
the form of distressed leathers, gunmetals and asymmetrical silhouettes.
Predicting a super shiny fall, Atil Kutoglu stuck
with the season’s hottest trend and vamped up the quintessential
metallic. Long sleeve golden gowns, luminescent brocade jackets and
hip-hugging pants kicked up the sparkle factor. For those of you who
can’t decide whether or not gold or silver is your favorite metallic to
sport, don’t fret! Atil wants you to wear them all, wear them well, and
wear them together. Shaking up these trendy hues, the collection
integrated copper and gunmetal into the metallic mix while doing
pairings of gold and silver fit for a queen.
Along with the metallic mayhem, rich velvet wraps
and simple shift dresses done up in hound’s-tooth and stripes added
lavish textures to the rich color palette. While very un-PETA friendly
fur coats accented with a sash are sure to keep the chill away from the
baronesses that purchase them.
Color Palette: Nothing short of shimmering! Atil is all about the
metallic. However, be sure you don’t forget your gunmetals, electric
blues, and distressed blacks this Fall.
